For 36 years, AWLS has been preparing young minds and hearts for the world that awaits them. Children in grades K-8 learn, grow, and achieve in an environment enriched with Christian teachings and morals.

CHRIST is the focus of all activity at Abiding Word. The most important goal at AWLS is to teach each child the love of Jesus. Daily devotions, prayer, and Bible study instills Christian values that last a lifetime.

As an ACCREDITED school with the Texas Private School Accreditation, National Council for Private Schools, and Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod School Accreditation,  Abiding Word adheres to high standards and small class sizes.

OPPORTUNITIES abound at AWLS. With a rich variety of co-curricular activities, students are able to grow outside the classroom. Students compete in after school sports including volleyball, soccer, basketball, cheerleading, and track. We also offer student growth opportunities through choir, band, forensics, and drama.

Word for the Soul
“Everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 15:4-6).

Rally Day
This Sunday, September 12 is Rally Day at Abiding Word. As we begin another school year, Rally Day serves as a “kick-off” to get us excited for Christian education and regular Sunday worship. In the 10:30am service, students in grades PK-8 will sing Come Let Us Sing. Students should follow the Wednesday dress code for this service. Students should meet in Mr. Herkstroeter’s classroom at 10:15 for organization and warm-ups.

Last Wednesday, the Abiding Word PTO gathered for its first meeting of the year. Over 20 parents and teachers were in attendance. Highlights from the meeting:

  • Efforts are being made to offer reimbursements for the 2008 school video. If you ordered a video and would like reimbursement, please contact Mr. Herkstroeter.
  • Online spirit wear is being finalized. A link should be ready within three weeks for parents to begin ordering.

Fall Festival
Mark your calendars. The PTO sponsored Fall Festival is scheduled for the afternoon of October 30. Details will be forthcoming!

Immunizations
Our consultant nurse, Carol Roth, has reviewed our immunization records and found a number of students that need additional vaccinations. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, students have 30 days to receive the additional vaccinations. If a student is not in compliance by the end of the 30 days, he/she is to be excluded from school attendance until the required dose is administered. If you child is not in compliance with required immunizations, a letter will be sent home notifying you of the needed vaccine(s). Please make necessary arrangements to have your child’s immunizations updated and then provide a copy to the school office within the next 30 days.

Men’s Bible Breakfast
Beginning Friday, September 17 all Dads are invited to a 6:30am Bible Breakfast at Taqueria Mama Rita’s located at 1702 FM 1960 (just ½ mile west of Abiding Word). We will be studying the book of Proverbs—a book that provides practical applications for Christian men in the 21st century.
